Apartment Review
Sullivan Place is Excellent

I am in the military and had 3 days to find a place to live. I had seen Sullivan place on another visit to DC and thought that it was nice but wanted to try living on post. When that fell through, this was the one place I wanted to go back to. The Management is really friendly. They are always willing to help out. It is nice that they remember who you are, care about what is going one, and if you are happy in the complex or not. Maintenace is really friendly and respond immediately to requests for service in the apartment. If you are not home they leave you a notice that they have been in and have made the requested service call. The garage is great, there are times really late at night I can't park on my floor but I can almost always find someone within one floor of mine. I almost always get the same three spots. During the storm, I swear that people from other complexes got in and parked because I got home late from a play and had to park on the rooftop part of the garage. No biggy by the next mid-day I was able to get my car under cover when all the outsiders left. The garage doors are going to help this out tremendously. This was a very proactive approach to a problem that was not something they could have forseen. I have also noticed a large increase in the amount of security checks by the Federal Police SUV's. a security firm, and local police agencies. It is comforting when I have to take the dogs out at night to see a patrol vehicle pass you. The outside of the complex is well lighted and you never have times where you are totally in the dark. My upstairs neighbor is a little noisy, but I can deal with this. Not worth the complaining as I am sure occassionally someone hears my dog doing the indy 500 in the apartment when it is time for chow. I try to respect everyone's privacy and I feel that the feeling is mutual. Everyone I have run across is really friendly. My dogs love the free cookies they provide and attention they get when they see the staff. They always love a good pat. The coffee and tea station is awesome and they are constantly making updates based on requests. I have found people don't follow the unwritten rule of your mother doesn't live here and there has been a couple of times I picked up some messes, I would suspect this would be from littler kids though as it was a raid on the sugar packets. However the norm is the area is kept very nice. They have free cooking classes and movie night twice a month. There is a yoga and aerobics class alternating every week on the inside basketball court. This is a bonus. I didn't use the pool and hot tub during the summer but from what I could tell it was kept very nice. My biggest issue is people not picking up after their pets, but it is not the complexes fault - it's lazy owners. The complex provides bags and stations to take care of your pets and have added more at the request of some of the owners; and only occassionally have I found these empty which left me having to leave the mess and come back down with a bag later and pick my dogs mess up. They were great with the snow issues recently and I really appreciated when the sidewalks were shoveled. This extreme problem showed how amazing the staff was at immediately resolving the issues that came about because of the storm. They have a great business center as well. The free shuttle to the Van Dorn is great and runs every thirty minutes in the morning and evening and on the hour during the day except during an extended lunch period. They will drive around the complex to get you closer to your main door location during peak times. The total time to the Van Dorn is about 10 minutes. Their gym is really nice. Typical times in the evening can be full but you can always find something to do. Most times I am in the gym with just one or two other people. The equipment is always clean and kept up. The price versus location is so worth it, and I am glad that I found this place. Actions speak louder than words as this complex is almost always full to capacity. There is a large population of military from all services.
