Apartment Review for Archstone Newport Village - Alexandria, VA

We had to rent on line but unfortunatley the pictures on line are not at all what the apartments look like. The management staff are rude and nasty. The last month I lived in the apartment they rarely picked up the garbage. Our entry smelled like a sewer! Neighbors started putting garbage at the curbside because it smelled too bad to go down to the disposal room. The apartment staff simply put out a note that if you did this you would be fined. They refused to give me a anything in writing when I moved out. A month later after they said everything was fine, I get a bill for $400. They had the wrong move out date and charged me for a full months utlilities even though I was there 9 days. The air-conditioning hadn't worked in weeks. Apartments by the office were infested with cockroaches and rats. If you are on a month to month be very careful. They will raise the rent without telling you. Virginia law says they must notifiy you 30 days in advance but they don't and tell you they don't think they have to. When I moved in October everybuilding had at least 3 apartments empty and people moving out every day. In talking to them it was because of the poor condition and treatment by the Archstone. The noise level is awful. If you don't mind hearing the dog upstairs running and barking or your neighbors having sex, then this is the place for you. Dogs bark day and night but Archstone staff won't do anything about it.
