Apartment Review for Brenmar Apartments - Alexandria, VA

1. Security, lighting, crime- The outdoor lighting is not very good in this apartment complex. The parking lot is not lit up so don't expect to go to your car at night without a flashlight. There are people in the parking lot at all hours of the night - in their cars or just walking through. The 7-11 and Mobil may seem convenient at first until you realize that they are robbed on a regular basis and that if you (female) walk over there chances are you will be offered money for the evening. Prior to moving out they had hired a local police officer to patrol the area. That was a lie. The police officer was never there and he owned 3-4 cars so he took up all the parking spaces (and you are only allowed 2 spaces per apartment). Let's just say he had some extra perks to include his low rent. 2. Parking- The only way you will have a reliable parking space is if you pay to reserve one. Don't expect to have friends come visit and park in the parking lot, they can't or they will be towed. They can park on the street where all the gang members park and where the bus comes -- good luck with not getting any scratches or broken into. 3. Appearance/Upkeep- They know your name because you are complaining about unfinished maintenance requests or concern about your personal security! 4. Management/Staff- No security, horrible outdoor lighting, high crime. 5. Maintenance- It takes forever for them to respond to your maintenance needs. You will have to remind them repeatedly. One day I put my key in the deadbolt lock to enter my apartment and the deadbolt fell out! Luckily I had a second entrance so I was able to enter my apartment or I would have been locked out. I called to have it replaced immediately as someone could easily break in. I had to call repeatedly throughout the day and finally at 9pm someone showed up to fix it. I had to sit at home waiting, very inconvenient! 6. Condition of Unit- I lived in a newly renovated apartment. It was a lot better than the non-renovated ones! The interior was nice, new appliances. But they didnt replace everything. The carpet needed replaced and the bathtub was DISGUSTING! It took them months (and I nagged) for them to finally resurface it. I was told upon move in that they would resurface it immediately. Again, maintenance needs are not met in a timely manner. 7. Noise Level- My neighbors were very quiet. You can hear dogs barking and yes your bedroom is right below/above your neighbors bedroom. 8. OVERALL- DO NOT LIVE HERE!
